My wife and I opened ScaledFitness in 2015—nearly a decade ago. The vision of combining a doctor’s office with a gym was born out of a promise I made to my mother.
Before we opened our doors, my mother—a dedicated nurse practitioner—passed away after suffering a massive stroke. Despite working in the healthcare field, she struggled for most of her adult life with obesity, diabetes, high cholesterol, and cardiovascular disease. Traditional medicine failed her. Before she passed, she urged me to create a clinic that focused on natural, proactive strategies to help patients combat and reverse these devastating conditions.
She wasn’t the first influential woman in my life to be lost to preventable disease. In my twenties, I also lost my grandmother to complications from diabetes and cardiovascular disease. The long-term effects of diabetes led to both of her legs being amputated. Soon after, she lost her vision—and then her life.
Several other family members and in-laws have also passed away from these same conditions. After witnessing these repeated tragedies, I knew it was time to act.
At ScaledFitness, we believe that teaching people how to eat well, exercise properly, and maintain a positive mindset is essential. While this may sound simple, it is often challenging and requires proven strategies and consistent support. As a physician, I’ve always felt a deep responsibility to educate the public about these insidious diseases and their long-term effects.
In my opinion, prevention begins with education. If we can help people understand the causes and consequences of obesity, diabetes, high cholesterol, and cardiovascular disease—and give them the tools to take immediate action—we can dramatically reduce their prevalence in the United States and around the world.
According to the CDC, the prevalence of obesity in the U.S. was approximately 40% between 2015 and 2016, affecting more than 93 million adults. These are not just statistics—they represent real people, real families, and real futures at risk.
Our mission at ScaledFitness is to improve the health and fitness of every patient and member by teaching them how to eat right and move well. Over the past 10 years, we’ve served more than 350 patient and member visits per week, helping individuals collectively lose thousands of pounds. More importantly, we’ve helped them enhance their strength, coordination, endurance, power, agility, speed, flexibility, balance, and stamina.
Looking ahead, my wife and I are expanding our mission online through a new platform: DrWFit.com. Our goal is to reach and support even more people struggling with obesity, diabetes, and cardiovascular disease—without relying on drugs or surgery.
Healthcare in the U.S. has shifted from a system designed to prevent disease to one focused on managing it. The primary tools—drugs and surgery—do not address the root causes. As a society, we’ve been led to believe that pills, powders, and potions are the answer. We’ve strayed from real food and instead rely on processed, food-like substances that taste good but provide little nutritional value—contributing to a population that is increasingly overweight and unwell.
Throughout my adult life, I’ve served as a public servant—in the United States Navy, as a Detective Sergeant in the Police Department, and now as a Doctor of Chiropractic. I feel a profound obligation to help reduce the rates of obesity and lifestyle-related diseases naturally—by teaching people how to become the healthiest versions of themselves.
The path forward is clear: Eat real food. Move your body. Care for your health.
Sincerely,
Dr. Ray Watson, DC
